Our Story
Mercy in Action International exists to share the love of Jesus in both word and action — reaching people in places where hope is scarce and the need is great.
Since 2001, we've had the privilege of serving children and families in some of the most vulnerable communities in East Africa and beyond. From feeding hungry children in Nairobi, to providing safe homes for orphans, to placing Bibles into the hands of pastors in remote villages, every effort is rooted in one mission: to see lives transformed by the Gospel.
What makes this work possible is a deep commitment to stewardship. Our board and team serve on a volunteer basis and cover their own travel expenses, allowing nearly every dollar given to go directly to the field — where it matters most.
We believe that meeting practical needs opens the door for lasting change. Through food, education, medical care, church planting, and the distribution of God's Word, we are seeing lives restored, communities strengthened, and hope take root.
Mercy in Action International is an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, headquartered in Jefferson, Ohio.

Faith-Driven
Everything we do flows from our faith in Jesus Christ. We believe the Gospel is the ultimate answer to poverty, injustice, and hopelessness.
Radical Stewardship
With only 2–3% overhead, we ensure that virtually every dollar reaches the field. 100% of our board members volunteer their time.
Local Leadership
We invest in local leaders like Mama Jane Nuthu, Pastors Sasha and Sara Vijakic, and the Mehmood family — empowering communities to sustain their own transformation.
Our Board
Mercy in Action International is governed by a dedicated board of directors who donate 100% of their time. Every board member is a committed Christian who shares the vision of serving the lost and forgotten.
The board provides strategic oversight, financial accountability, and spiritual guidance to ensure that MIA remains faithful to its mission and responsible with every dollar entrusted to us.
